Service Description

Children with autism are 8 times more likely to have gastrointestinal issues compared to those who don’t have the condition. It is important to realize that the food you eat is either medicine or it is poison. It is either helping your brain, body, and mind or hurting them. Many of the symptoms of autism relate to sensory integration. Also known as horticultural therapy, gardening has been shown to have a dramatic effect on individuals with autism, regardless of age. Gardening involves many steps and skills. One child may connect with plants as a living thing, being able to talk to them about their thoughts and feelings. Another child may reduce feelings of anxiety while gardening, whereas another individual may become interested in new food groups, benefiting their long-term nutritional health. I provide a space for indoor and outdoor food production. - The students learn about a gardening schedule that shows the steps involved. - They learn how to care for small plants and watch them grow over time. - They have an opportunity to choose flowers or plants with lots of colors to provide sensory input. - They can decorate the garden with small objects based on their interests. They keep a gardening journal and track the progress.
